Trivia[]

  • This season was confirmed on May 21, 2020, along with the cancellation of Schooled.
  • It was thought that this season may consist of 25 episodes instead of the usual 24, as production on Season 7 was shut down on March 14, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the final episode was unable to be filmed. However, Wendi McLendon-Covey confirmed on April 10, 2021 that the season would consist of 22 episodes.[3]
    • On July 25, 2020, executive producer Doug Robinson confirmed that the one episode that didn't premiere in Season 7 would be added to Season 8, though it wouldn't be the premiere episode, as Robinson wants to continue The Goldbergs tradition of paying homage to a movie in season premieres (in this case, Airplane!). Therefore, it is assumed that the unproduced Season 7 episode will take place sometime in Season 8.
    • Wendi McLendon-Covey revealed that the episode involves "a wedding of some sort". She was referring to "Bill's Wedding", as confirmed on November 2, 2020.[4]
  • Adam and Brea Bee were together at the beginning of this season.
  • It is unknown if Lainey Lewis will return due to the cancellation of Schooled, but Jonathan Glascott appeared in "The Prettiest Boy in School" and will likely be recurring once again.
    • On July 31, 2020, it was confirmed that Bryan Callen would not be returning to his role as Rick Mellor in the upcoming season.[5]
  • It was thought that this could be the final season of the show, as Troy Gentile stated that the show had to go at least one more season ("It has to go to senior year, at least for Adam."[6]), and Adam is a senior in this season. However, the series was renewed for a ninth season on May 14, 2021.[7]
  • This season will retain the prior season's time slot, Wednesdays at 8:00pm/7:00c.[8]
  • This season premiered with a tribute to the 1980 film Airplane!.[9]
  • On July 25, 2020, executive producer Doug Robinson confirmed that production for this season was still scheduled to begin in August, and was expected to premiere in Fall 2020, with very strict precautions on set to prevent any outbreak of COVID-19 among the cast and crew. On August 24, 2020, Wendi McLendon-Covey revealed that filming would begin that week and the season would premiere in late October.[10]
  • On August 25, 2020, production officially began for Season 8, Hayley Orrantia filmed the full rundown of the precautions that they take on set.[11]
  • Ren returned this season from the prior season, but Carrie Wampler was cast in the role due to Kelli Berglund being committed to another show.[12]
  • On September 10, 2020, it was announced that the season would premiere on October 21, 2020 with an hour long premiere, with episodes continuing October 28, 2020 at 8pm/7c.[13]
  • On December 31, 2020, it was announced that production of the eighth season of The Goldbergs had been delayed due to a surge in COVID-19 cases and would resume on January 11th rather than January 4th as previously expected.[14]
