Joanne Rebecca Schwartz-Goldberg is the sister of Geoff Schwartz, daughter of Lou and Linda Schwartz, wife of Barry Goldberg and a recurring character in The Goldbergs. She is portrayed by Beth Triffon.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Joanne grew up in Jenkintown with her parents and younger brother Geoff. Her parents have always preferred her to her brother. She and Geoff's best friend Barry have always been teasing each other a lot. She has had a close relationship with the Goldberg family throughout their lives.
Season 8[]
Joanne returns home to Hannukah and announces that she has decided to drop out of law school to become a singer. Erica, however, proves to be better than her and Geoff blurts out that he is sick of their parents always prefer Joanne. Later Lou and Linda tell her that she has no talent for singing and force her to go back to school.
Some time later, learning that Geoff has decided to take Erica to attend a Nancy Glass show, Joanne agrees to pretend to be Barry's girlfriend in order to make Geoff stop preferring Erica to them in everything. After her she states that as her fake boyfriend, Barry was better than some of the real ones and the two decide to try dating for real.
Later she and Barry show that they have a great connection, and as a couple they consider themselves superior to Erica and Geoff.
Season 9[]
Joanne grows closer with the Goldberg family as Erica is now engaged to her brother and she is still dating Barry. In Horse Play, Joanne reveals that she inappropriately posed her father's prized porcelain horses during a high school party and blamed it on Erica. She later decides to tell her father what she did, but he does not seem to mind.
In The Hunt for the Great Albino Pumpkin, Joanne discovers Barry's rap persona, "Big Tasty". She attempts to help him realize his skill in rapping once again by assisting him in creating a halloween rap to perform in front of Elvira. The two produce "Monster Train" with the help of Erica. However, Barry becomes discouraged when Elvira turns his song down and becomes upset with Joanne. The two later make up when Barry claims that she was the only one that cared enough to revive "Big Tasty". Joanne also attempts to become closer to Erica by becoming her wedding "fun captain" when Lainey and Ren are unavailable. However she is shown to have different ideas of fun than Erica and it falls apart.
