Ben Goldberg (born September 14, 1917), better known by his nickname Pop Pop, is the antipathic and unfriendly father of the late Murray Goldberg and also father to Marvin Goldberg, the paternal grandfather of Erica, Barry, and Adam Goldberg, the great-grandfather of Muriel Goldberg-Schwartz and a recurring character in The Goldbergs. He was portrayed by Paul Sorvino in his first appearance, and since Season 3, he has been portrayed by Judd Hirsch. Beginning with Poker Night, Pop Pop appears more frequently and seems closer to Adam than he did in past seasons. In If You Build It, he moved into the Goldbergs' basement after burning down his apartment while cooking beans.
